Bands White People Like

More backlash today for Vampire Weekend, creators of my most hummable album of the year (decade?), Vampire Weekend.

SWPL: Right now? I have to say Vampire Weekend all the way. They're pushing it to levels unseen.

So, SWPL is the whitest blog, right? I like this blog as much as any of my white friends (heckfire, he's got Jenny Lewis on his front page as I type), but are we only laughing because the jokes are so new? I grew up, a young immigrant Asian boy, in the Deep South (north Florida is, geographically, the deepest South possible, because past Ocala, people get rich, old, and Jewish and, eventually, Cuban), so I heard my fair share of jokes about black people, brown people, yellow people, gay people, disabled people, cat people, and black people. Never any white people jokes. Suddenly, this white people blog hits the scene, dropping all this brand new material on us. It's new and fresh now, but I predict it'll die off soon, like Google, the iPod, and Vampire Weekend.
